Graphology and multi-modal texts....

In the first unit we looked at the way in which developments in information technology make it easier for people to produce multi-modal texts combining words and images.

This unit looks at what we can learn from the appearance or graphology of new technology including its impact on desktop published documents and the emergence of new patterns of punctuation, spelling, and use of symbols in computer-mediated communication (CMC).

New technology texts seem to reflect changes in the nature and status of the visual markings of text. Graphology may also function unwittingly to record aspects of the semi-automated communication process. Finally, we look at aspects of the visual and kinaesthetic in Internet texts.
